Subcontract given to test treatments of major depressive disorder (MDD)
Silver Spring, Md. – AnthroTronix (www.atinc.com), an award-winning research and development (R&D) company that designs human-inspired products that define the future of mobile technology, recently awarded the Department of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine a subcontract to use AnthroTronix’s technology to study ways to improve clinical care in the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). This subcontract is in support of a U.S Army Rapid Innovation Fund project at AnthroTronix.
Researcher Adam Kaplin, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, will lead the research. The subcontract supports the work designed to enhance patient care, specifically related to the application of AnthroTronix’s Defense Automated Neurobehavioral Assessment (DANA), mobile brain vitals health assessment tool.

DANA is a clinical decision support tool that allows medical providers to conduct a series of cognitive and psychological tests on individuals potentially impacted from brain injuries or mental stress. Programmed on the Android operating system, DANA is applied to mobile, handheld computers , tablets (for this effort, the Samsung Galaxy tablet), and phones to test the reaction time, memory, and spatial processing of an individual. The technology also allows medical professionals to assess the progress of treatment and recovery for injured individuals.
Originally developed by AnthroTronix for the U.S. Department of Defense, DANA has proven its reliability in numerous settings. The handheld technology has been tested in cold, heat, humidity, altitude, and shipboard environments with the results published in Military Medicine, a peer-reviewed journal.
